This can be done through the registry. At least that's how I do it, I never use system's
settings for that. And I don't know Vista's way...

SciTE is an extendable development environment for producing source code and markup-language files. Your preferred tools can be integrated into SciTE. It is customized through editing text files containing a list of properties in order to allow control with flexibility.

You can set the preferences for each extension, or define the PerceivedType for them, and
set SciTE as default editor for this perceived type.

Extract of my SciTE.reg file:

  1. Install SciTE on Ubuntu and other Linux distributions. SciTE is available in apt repository of Ubuntu. You can install it using the following command in terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T): sudo apt-get install scite. For other distributions, the source code is available for downloaded from its official website.

  3. 4 Working with SciTE SciTE is a fairly powerful editor that has a variety of features. What follows are some hints that you might find useful. When you open/create a file with a FORTRAN file type, SciTE will automatically perform syntax-highlighting. If it doesn't recognize the language of a new file, click on Language and pull down to Fortran.
